Why Post-Surgery Rehabilitation Matters
Surgery addresses the structural problem, but physiotherapy is often what determines how well and how quickly you regain movement, strength and confidence afterward. At 365 Physiotherapy, we support patients recovering from a range of procedures, including joint replacements, ligament reconstructions and spinal surgery, both in clinic and via home visits.
The General Phases of Recovery
Every surgery and surgeon's protocol is different, but rehabilitation typically follows a similar structure:
### 1. Early / Protection Phase
Focus on protecting the surgical site, managing swelling and pain, and gentle movement within the limits set by your surgeon.
### 2. Restoring Movement
Gradually regaining range of motion in the joint or area, using guided exercises and manual therapy.
### 3. Building Strength
Progressive strengthening of the muscles around the surgical site as healing allows.
### 4. Return to Function
Working toward your specific goals — walking without aids, climbing stairs, returning to work, sport or hobbies.
